The purpose of this assignment is to identify an existing program or policy that stems from a particular theory. This will enhance our discussion of each perspective and allow us to identify the practical applications of criminological theory.

For this assignment, you are to identify a prevention program, an intervention program, crime control policy or strategy that is consistent with the theoretical perspective that you chose. For your paper you are to:

  1. Describe the policy/program (2 pgs)
  2. Identify how the policy/program fits with the theory (3pgs)
  3. Identify strengths and weaknesses of the policy/program in controlling crime, based on available empirical studies (3pgs)
  4. Draw conclusions about the overall utility of the program in reducing crime and make recommendations for improving future crime control efforts (2pgs)

The paper is worth a total of 40 points of your grade. All late papers will be penalized 20 points each day past the due date. Papers are due at the beginning of class on October 30, 2017; late papers will be penalized points each day past the due date (papers submitted after 6:00 pm on due date will be penalized one full day). Each paper should be 10 pages in length (typed, double-spaced, Times New Roman font, and size 12), and should be spell checked and edited for typographical errors. All papers should be submitted to Blackboard.

The paper must conform with the APA guidelines for citing references and for constructing reference lists. You MUST include at least five recent (after 2005) peer-reviewed journal articles from restricted sources: i) Criminal Justice Abstract; ii) ProQuest Criminal Justice; iii) PsycINFO; and iv) Social Sciences Citation Index. If you include any articles in which cannot find from four limited resources, it will not be considered. For more detailed guidelines, please refer to the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association, 6th Edition.
