A Class Divided is a classic film about stereotyping and its effects, which is based on an experiential exercise in discrimination using eye color. After watching the film, answer each of the following five short-answer questions. Write your responses in complete sentences. Your answers to each question should be one to two paragraphs.

3. What were the major factors perpetuating the status quo in the society created by the leader in the eye-color exercise?  Can you cite parallels from today’s society to the attitudes and behaviors of the participants during the exercise?

4. Microcultural group members tend to see many people from the mainstream culture in positions of power in much the same way that members of the inferior group perceived Mrs. Elliott during the exercise.  What effect might such a perception have on the productivity of a business, the respect or acceptance afforded law enforcement personnel, or the perpetuation of your democratic way of life?

5. From what you’ve seen in this film, who do you feel is responsible for the existence and elimination of racism in society? For example, do you believe schools, religious leaders, the government, heads of major corporations, or the legal system are responsible?  Explain your answer.
