classmate’s response ( Mock naval battles, or naumachia, were popular spectator events in ancient Rome. The notion that the Colosseum would be utilized to fulfill the purpose of mock naval battles is not unbelievable because of both the importance of naumachia events and the capacity for spectators in the Colosseum. Historians even support the possibility that the Emperor Titus held a mock naval battle in the Colosseum. According to researchers and historians, it was possible to flood the Colosseum enough to allow ships to sail in its early existence, before tunnels and storage rooms were built under the Colosseum’s floor. After the spectator event, the Colosseum could be drained using pools and canals. Because of the evidence supporting the naval battles staged in the Colosseum and the great value placed on spectator events in ancient Rome, I believe the center for entertainment at the Colosseum was most likely utilized for at least one mock naval battle. )
